MahaPakshi Ganana 2012

Maharashtra Pakshimitra announces the third annual state-wide Bird Census 2012 from the 22nd of January to the 29th of January,2012. Participation is open to all-be they students, teachers, professionals, housewives or senior citizens. This census, initiated in 2010 is an attempt of a state association of bird lovers to collect information regarding the distribution, status and threats to birds. This census will aid protection and conservation attempts by providing a database and a framework for current and future initiatives. Mr. Sharad Apte from Sangli will work as the co-ordinator of the bird census.

All sections of society are welcome to participate in the census. Habitats ranging from tiny backyards to lakes, forests, mangrove patches and open grasslands can be selected for the bird count. The census is to be carried out from 6.30am to 10.00 am and from 4.00pm to 7.30 pm in the evenings on any day from 22nd January to 29th January 2012. The species, habitats, breeding, behaviour etc should be noted in the datasheet.

Maharashtra Pakshimitra Membership

Maharashtra Pakshimitra, a registered NGO in Maharashtra, working for birds.
The President of the NGO Mr. Bhau Katdare, the Chief Executive, Mr. Govind Sabnis, Coordinator, Mr. Sudhakar Kurhade and Secretary, Mr. Vishwas Joshi have appealed to the bird watchers, students, experts and the amateurs to become a lifetime member of the NGO.

Anybody having concern about the birds can become a member of the NGO by remitting Rs. 500/- once for all. The NGO has determined to register 5000 members this year and stretch up to one lakh during the next decade. The more details can be had on our Email- ID - pakshimitra@gmail.com .

Maharashtra Pakshimitra is the registered NGO working since 1981 in Maharashtra on bird watch, conservation and organisation. The NGO has at it's credit the seminars organised at state level in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Khandesh, konkan etc., every year.

The NGO is undertaking various programs since 2010 and the Maha Pakshi Ganana is successfully organised. Hereafter the district wise list of birds will be completed through participation of the bird watchers in large numbers. The information gathered from every bird watcher will be included in up to date list of birds in Maharashtra.

The NGO will publish it's monthly publication and will begin soon a quarterly publication in E form. It will organise bird watch trails, Pakshimitra award every year.

The survey of birds found in various places and the endangered species will be undertaken and special efforts will be made for their conservation. Various competitions, nature trails etc., will be arranged for students by the NGO.

An appeal is made by the president Mr.Bhau Katdare on behalf of the NGO to every one to become a member and then try for more and more members.
